Meet Daniel, Senior Consultant and Berlingske Talent 100, 2017

High customer satisfaction, engaged employees and an exceptional ability to implement change in a loyal and structured manner.

This was, in essence, the testimonial included in the recommendation that earned Daniel a prominent position on the newspaper Berlingske’s annual list of the 100 most promising young talents in the Danish business sector.
Daniel himself takes a humble approach to it all:

– Of course I am happy and proud – at the personal level. But I am also very humble. My primary focus is on the results I deliver together with the team. That is what I am really passionate about, Daniel says.

From part-time staff to manager in just two years – and moving on to new challenges at Nykredit

Daniel started his career at Nykredit as a meeting booker paid by the hour while studying for an MSc in economics and business administration at Aarhus University. In his job, he met a culture where staff were invited to join exciting projects if they were motivated and possessed sufficient initiative. And he met role models – people who had made the transition from student to manager, as he dreamed of doing himself.

- When I was offered the job of team manager and later on function manager, I did not hesitate to seize the opportunity – even though it required a move from Aarhus to Copenhagen.I believe that seizing opportunities and trying something new make me grow, says Daniel.

Being head of the new Customer Onboarding team was an excellent management experience for Daniel, and the team delivered impressive results and customer satisfaction ratings. At the same time, he participated in several projects across the Nykredit group; one project was the development of a new training programme for AP Graduates in financial management. Along the way, he has built an extensive network on which he draws in his new job as senior consultant at Business Optimisation at Nykredit’s headquarters.

With his new job, Daniel has taken a step away from the day-to-day operations and direct customer contact. However, experiences from previous years as manager of the Customer Onboarding team are important stones in the foundation on which he is building his future career.

- I know the advisers’ day-to-day activities and the demands of the customers. I apply my previous experience in my new job every single day, creating concrete solutions that offer the advisers an easier and better working life. One solution may, for instance, aim to ease our workflows and automate some of the procedures triggered on contact with out customers, Daniel explains.

Hunger for development and learning

Daniel believes that the shift from function manager of the Customer Onboarding team to senior consultant at Business Optimisation is an important step in his development.

- My new job will widen my skills set and give me concrete experience in the fields of project management and process optimisation. This is a whole new way of working, and I look forward to developing further in the job – two decisive factors when I accepted my new position at this stage of my career. If offered the opportunity, I would very much like to be manager again, but I’m not in a hurry. I’m thriving and developing in my current job, but let’s see what the future brings, he says.

Daniel nods in recognition of the wording of Nykredit’s pledge to its staff of prioritising development and opportunities for skilled and engaged people.

– Many have the talent and potential to go far. But there is a huge difference between having the ability and the determination to develop – and I am sure that if you every day display a zeal for developing and learning more, you will in most cases find that the organisation opens up and provides opportunities for development. At least, that is my experience, says Daniel.
